About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a full-time Civil Engineer (EIT or PE) - Traffic/Transportation to join our growing team. The position will be based out of our downtown Charlottesville, Virginia office (Hybrid model). The successful candidate should reside in Virginia and have the ability to travel to our Charlottesville office for meetings and design meetings when needed. Relocation assistance is available if the candidate will move to the Charlottesville area.
You will be responsible for planning and designing multimodal transportation improvements that enhance the livability of Cities, Counties, and Regions.
Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Working on a variety of project types, addressing transportation challenges in real time
- Designing traffic signal systems to optimize traffic flow as part of ongoing projects
- Utilizing MicroStation software for project design and drafting tasks on a daily basis
- Participating in meetings to discuss and plan project strategies, and collaborating with colleagues throughout the day
- Brainstorming and working through project processes with team members as projects evolve
- Coordinating with staff members throughout the day to refine process and concept details for ongoing projects
- Creating plans and technical documents that are produced regularly
- Learning, innovating, and delivering excellent work products to meet the needs of our diverse and expanding client base
- Utilizing state-of-the-art transportation analysis software platforms for ongoing data analysis needs
- Conducting traffic analysis using software tools like Synchro, Sidra, Vissim, and HCS as part of their daily tasks
- Engaging in multimodal planning and design activities to address diverse transportation needs
About You
To qualify, you will need to have at least 3-4 years of relevant experience (in a similar industry) and must possess a degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering professions. You must also hold an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or a Professional Engineering license (PE) to be eligible for this position.

As our successful candidate, you will also join us with the following attributes:
- A strong understanding of traffic flow theory
- Experience with designing traffic control devices
- Strong familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, NACTO, and VDOT design standards
- Very strong writing (plans and technical documents) and communication skills
- Experience utilizing state-of-the-practice transportation analysis software platforms
- Desire to work on a wide range of project types ranging from transportation, land use, and urban design projects
- Traffic analysis using Synchro, Sidra, Vissim, and HCS (preferred)
- Multimodal planning and design (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Adobe Suite (InDesign/Illustrator) and GIS (preferred)
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (preferred)
- Experience working on VDOT, or other state DOT Projects (preferred)
